ZigBee is a low-power local area network protocol based on the IEEE802.15.4

ZigBee is a low-power local area network protocol based on the IEEE802.15.4 standard, and LoRa is one of the LPWAN communication technologies. So what is the difference and connection between the two?

There are various wireless technologies in IoT applications, which can form a local area network or a wide area network. The wireless technologies that make up the local area network mainly include 2.4GHz WiFi technology, Bluetooth transmission technology, Zigbee technology, etc., and the wireless technologies that make up the WAN mainly include 2G/3G/4G. The advantages and disadvantages of these wireless technologies are very obvious, which can be summarized in the following figure. Before Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) came into being, it seemed that there was only one choice between long distance and low power consumption. When using LPWAN technology, designers can achieve both, maximizing longer-range communications and lower power consumption, while saving on additional repeater costs.

LoRa wireless technology is one of LPWAN communication technologies. It is an ultra-long-distance wireless transmission scheme based on spread spectrum technology adopted and promoted by Semtech in the United States.

This solution changes the previous compromise between transmission distance and power consumption, and provides users with a simple system that can achieve long distance, long battery life, and large capacity, thereby expanding the sensor network. At present, LoRa modules mainly operate in free frequency bands around the world, including 433, 868, 915 MHz, etc.

LoRa modules have the characteristics of long distance, low power consumption (long battery life), multiple nodes, and low cost.

ZigBee protocol is a low-power LAN protocol based on IEEE802.15.4 standard

ZigBee wireless communication technology is a short-range, low-complexity, low-power, low-rate, low-cost two-way wireless communication technology.

It is mainly used for data transmission between various electronic devices with short distance, low power consumption and low transmission rate, as well as typical applications with periodic data, intermittent data and low response time data transmission.
